Air Display App Reviews

Horrible scam!

My air display 2 kept crashing and giving pop ups that I was required to upgrade to airdisplay 3. I did, and now the app says it is not compatible with Windows. I want a refund!!!

Garbage, I want a refund

They silently dropped Windows support on this version and the old version crashes on current iOS. I want a refund. Useless

Rip off!!

This system used to work when it was the original. Now it fails to even mention that the "free installer drivers" are only a trial! You have to shell out another $20 to actually install them! This app is a complete rip off and I demand to be refunded!

Great, but not so ready for El Cap

Some of the new features in El Cap slow this app down a little. The Spaces feature smears app images across the top and glitches out. Also, on my iPad 4, the menu bar is completely blacked out and I cant see/read any of the drop down menu names.

No longer works with Windows

Previous versions of this supported Windows. They even have the software still available for download to enable it. Dont waste your time or money if you are needing to use this with Windows.

I want a refund

This is a waste of money. It doesnt do what its supposed to do. I teach technology so I should be able to figure it out, but it doesnt work!

Want my money back

This app does nothing but crash. Ive contacted the company twice and they acted like it was a joke. This app is a joke and they should reimburse everyone who paid for it immediately.

Not really a usable screen

Sure, you can extend your desktop, but not really in any meaningful way. This is nothing like actually connecting a 2nd monitor. The image quality is not as good and it is very slow/sluggish to respond, even over USB. So, you can’t use it to get any actual work done, all it’s good for is putting something on the screen that you need to reference, like if you’re copying some text or following instructions. Definitely NOT worth the price, it should either work better or cost much less.

Pretty good app

I bought this because it works over wifi and with a cable attached to my Macbook Pro (10.11.1). I have had it for about 8 months and use it once or twice a week. Pros: Resolution is good - I have “Use Retina resolutions” and “Use HiDPI system resolution” checked in preferences. It works with iPad in both portrait and landscape mode (I had to contact support to fix a glitch to get it to work. They responded within 24 h and fixed the issue). I can have my Macbook Pro open and connected to a Cinema Display and my iPad for 3 screens. I don’t have a response problem using Word, Excel or Powerpoint on the iPad display when connected by cable. Typing text is OK over wifi in all 3 apps. The iPad doesn’t sleep when connected by cable Cons: There is a lag when using Shapes in Powerpoint over wifi. I don’t notice the lag so much in Word, though. Plus I generally use the app at work and the wifi where I work can be slow sometimes so that may contribute. When connected by wifi, you either have to touch the iPad screen before your sleep setting kicks in or lengthen the time awake.

It crash all the time in El Capitan

And also when it is connected via USB

Leisurely development

It must be nice to have such a leisurely development schedule. I bought this just before iOS9 for the additional pressure sensitive stylus support. Well, these guys are just not on the ball. They disabled support for pressure sensitive stylus due to stylus manufacturer support for ios9. All of them. And they seem unconcerned about bringing any back for a while. That, folks, is an incompetent development strategy. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to try a competitor for this functionality.

Crap that probably worths 1/10 of its price

I should have listened to the others. It does mirror the screen but it is super slow. I just use it as a side display to read papers when I do my homework, but it takes literally at least 5 sec to drag down to another page. Plus the whole app and the website looks like a scam.

GlassHollow

Using it with a MacBook Air Mid 2012. HP 2009 17" Monitor. And in between them I have a iPad 2. I put palettes from from Illustrator, Pages, print monitors. Not much lag when the iPad is plugged in to the MacBook Air with USB. I think its worth it. I bet a faster iPad would do even better. Setup was easy.

Satisfied

So far so good... Performs as expected! Soooo helpful. Definitely increased my productivity!

great disappointment

UPDATE Feb 01 2016: Still similar opinion - when it works its really not that bad, but…. The connection issue seems to have been improved and there are few occasions when the Mac can’t detect the iPad. For me the issue with the current version is freezes & crashes. As soon as there is a lot of video info passing to the iPad (such as when watching a video or OSX’s “Flurry” screensaver”) then Air Display locks on the iPad and has to be forced out and re-launched. Still only 2 stars. My setup: MPB 2012 i7 OS10.10.5 iPad 3 iOS9.2 Jun 04 2015: I dithered between Air Display 3 and Duet, being the only Apps that can currently connect to an iPad via USB. I opted for Air Display on account of the ability to also work via wireless. WHEN the software works, its great. Exactly as expected, not much lag etc etc. 4.5 stars! BUT its really difficult to get the ipad and the mac to communicate. With a working setup, quit the app, go and do something else, come back and try to get to all going again and you’ll need to re-install and restart the software on both the Mac and the iPad. Equally complicated if the Mac display goes to sleep when running Air Display - it will not recover and reconnect to the ipad. I have used Air Display 1 for years with satisfactory results (for Wifi) and had great hopes for this software. However it is NOT consumer ready and certainly does not justify the price. My setup: MPB i7 OS10.9.5 iPad 3 iOS8.1.3

Windows 10

Wasted money on this app , dont work for wins 10 dont get it if u have wins 10

Love this app!

I downloaded this app and fussed with it for awhile -- it helps to read the information on the web site, and tech support was super nice and helpful. I dont know whether I have a different version than those who claimed otherwise, but I have been thrilled by the quality of the second monitor (iPad Air) and it is super fast and particularly easy by connecting (for me) a Mac Air and the iPad. If you dont "get it" at first, stick with it and ask questions if you need to because this is outstanding!

Does what it says touch extension or mouse

In office or home studio works as stated. I keep it connected USB. It expands your real estate. Working remotely in a hotel with logic prox with touch, mouse or pad speeds the process on editing. Drag your outlook or tools to your pad keeps you organized. Thanks. It works for me. Composer, manager etc. Ipad 4 and iPad air2 iMac and MacBook Pro 10.10.5

What I needed

Air display is exactly what I needed. I use the usb connection. Wifi connection has too much lag. Buy the iPad app and download the driver on the website. Easy setup and its good to go. I also bought duet display and they are basically the same.

Love the idea, but doesnt work with Mac mini and iPad Pro

Really wanted to use this to quickly plug in to my network closet Mac mini in cases where screen sharing is not working, but alas. The screen on the iPad is always black when using the USB connection. Maybe it has something to do with the higher density iPad pro screen, not sure. Either way, great idea but not working for my devices.
