Air Display turns your iOS screen into a wireless (or wired) display for your Mac.

“Whether you’re a MacBook owner with an occasionally need to expand the desktop while on the road or a Mac Pro user who can never have enough screens, Air Display 3 is a cost-effective way to add up to four displays using devices you already own.” —Macworld

“You have a bunch of different options to turn your iPad into a second display, but we prefer Air Display as the easiest option.” — Lifehacker

Increase your productivity with extra screen real estate, or mirror your Mac computer display to your iOS device. (Sorry Windows users, Air Display is just for Macs.)

For best results, connect via USB for buttery smooth graphics performance.

Air Display has two components: this iOS app and a separate free host app that you install on your Mac.

KEY FEATURES

Wi-Fi or USB — You can connect wirelessly. And for even faster, more reliable performance, you can connect your iOS device and Mac via the USB charging cable.
Pressure Sensitivity — Use an Apple Pencil, a third-party pressure-sensitive pen, or even your finger to draw or paint into pressure-aware Mac apps like Photoshop and Motion.
Teleprompter Mode — Air Display can flip your screen horizontally or vertically for use with a teleprompter.
Pinch Zoom — Zoom in to magnify the screen. This is especially useful when drawing or painting details.
Multiple Monitors — Air Display connects up to 4 iPads simultaneously for powerful multi-monitor configurations.
HiDPI — Choose Normal, Retina, or HiDPI resolution to suit your taste.
Keyboard — Type using Air Displays built-in keyboard or any Bluetooth keyboard.
Touch Gestures — You can control your Mac with intuitive iOS gestures: tap or drag to operate the mouse or tap with two fingers to right-click.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

• Host: macOS 10.8 and above (macOS 10.13.4–10.13.6 is not supported), but latest features require a host on 10.10+
• Windows is not supported
• For wired connection: Lightning-to-USB or USB-C charging cable

Pros and cons of Air Display app for iPhone and iPad

Air Display app good for

This program respond quickly and reliably. This makes any iPad to the perfect second monitor with the additional purchase of a small kickstand. The price is just and fair. Its a shame that it was not a part of the AirPlay technology, per definition. Keep up the good work!

Works as I expected. Room for improvement but no big problems. The one problem I had was on my end and the apps support was swift and helpful.
Simple: with usb connection its a 5 star app. Without the use connection its a 3 star app.
Nicely done, although the wifi option needs some serious work.
I use a dual monitor system at home and wanted the same flexibility when travelling, Air Display 3 works better than I expected with my MacBook Pro and iPad 3. I wasn’t expecting the same performance as my desktop system, but it’s pretty close, I am impressed. Thank you Avatron.

Some bad moments

I bought expecting to work with Windows via USB. It doesnt!!!
- yes the usb function works more stable quicker than wifi. - very cpu hungry on a mac though. - distorted picture appears on the ipad retina mini sometimes here. - still a bit laggy overall mainly because of the cpu usage and the lag not really useable in my personal situation. actually Ive just tested duet display app which is working way better for me
Make yourself a bog favor and run away from here. In my experience version 2 did not work and this one... Ive just connected v3 on OS X 10.2 (Macbook Pro 15 Late 2013 w/ thunderbolt display) and got a terrible glitch where I could do nothing on my Mac, thus had to hard reboot (with all the opened apps closing). The only thing this product is good at is making 15 Euro less one your bank account. Seems like people at Avatron do not know what testing is. Terrible.
I downloaded it and its not cheap. Its choppy, laggy, slow, no good for nothing crap like the rest of the desktop viewers out there. I have an older iMac running Yosemite and an iPad Air. If you want an exercise in frustration, buy it now. I wont bother opening it again until I see an update.
The use of the lightning cable is a considerable improvement. Screen move around smooth and resize nicely on the iPAD. Playing a video within iTunes and viewing it on the iPAD is not possible. It plays, and actually seems quite smooth. However, every 5-10 seconds the screen jumps and flickers. Making it totally unwatchable. I am using a new Macbook Pro with Yosemite and an iPAD AIR connected with the USB cable. Processing power is not the issue. I had a choice to purchase another second screen software and am regretting not going for that one. Two stars until issue resolved. Too bad.
I upgraded from v2 to v3. Total waste of money. Neither wifi nor usb work for me. I am using Macbook Pro running Yosemite 10.10.3 and 3rd generation iPad running iOS 8.1
